Arise, Sir David Beckham: Football Legend Honoured by the Monarch at Royal Windsor Investiture

The football icon was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on the weekday. The ex-national team leader, 50, was among those receiving awards for his services to sport and charity. Earlier this year, he expressed he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Football Career Highlights

The player first appeared in England's top division for Manchester United in 1995 and was part of the team that secured a thrilling European Cup win in the late nineties when they beat Bayern Munich with last-minute strikes.

Overall, he netted 85 goals and garnered accolades including multiple English championships and domestic cup wins as a footballer, before retiring from the sport in 2013. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has supported a number of charity causes, including acting as a goodwill ambassador for humanitarian aid organisation Unicef since the mid-2000s.

Philanthropy and Beyond

In the previous year, the sports star, who has described himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, an educational charity established by the King in the early nineties. In the late nineties he was named most stylish man of the year by GQ magazine and he has posed for brands like the fashion retailer, Armani, and Boss.

Beckham married his wife Victoria in 1999 and the couple have four children together – their eldest, the second son, Cruz, and Harper.
