The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive event packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their crowns.

Last year's winners received $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
